Life in Icons

Editorial Design: Fall 2024

This book was created as part of my role as a teaching assistant for an undergraduate design studio. Each student contributed a set of icons representing their daily life, and I designed a collaborative publication where each student had a dedicated page to showcase their work. The book also served as a teaching tool—structured around workshops I helped lead on linocut printing, risograph printing, and bookbinding—introducing students to new hands-on design processes while celebrating their individual contributions.

In developing this project, I wanted to bring my own art-making methods into the classroom, introducing students to linocut printing as a way of physically engaging with image-making. Each student hand-carved a set of icons based on their daily routines, translating the everyday into something tactile and expressive. Facilitating this process and watching each student take ownership of their page was one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. I learned so much through teaching: how to create space for experimentation, how to adapt in real time, and how meaningful it can be to build something together.
