Non-Linear

Website Design: Spring 2024

This web page is a method of dissemination for my research paper on the shift from print to digital information systems. It explores how the integration of hyperlinks, multimodal text architectures, and underlying algorithms leads to non-linear reading patterns that contribute to content manipulation and the perpetuation of social biases.

I designed and coded a website to display this information and made it so that my website itself was a non-linear product showcasing the effects of non-linear information consumption in real time as users explore the page.

Users enter the website and can choose to randomly select which page they go to, or select their starting point and follows along through a series of selections that determines their unique route.

This project allows the format to echo the content. The experience of navigating the site mirrors the unpredictable, often fragmented ways we consume information online. In that sense, the website becomes both an exhibit and a critique of non-linear systems, asking users to reflect on how structure impacts meaning.
