The Candy Bag

Publication: Spring 2024

This encyclopedic publication on Swedish candy was inspired by my visits to candy shops across the city after Swedish sweets gained viral attention on social media. I aimed to capture the essence and texture of the candy through a carefully selected color palette, hand-drawn illustrations, and expressive typography. Every illustration and piece of large typography is drawn by hand, reinforcing the playful and organic feel of the book. The cover is made from a thin plastic sheet with round cutouts, allowing glimpses of the candy illustrations on the next page. This design choice mimics the experience of peeking into a candy bag and the building anticipation for the treats inside.

My encyclopedia is sensory-heavy because candy itself is an inherently multisensory experience. It’s not just about taste, but also texture, color, scent, and even sound.

By incorporating sensory-driven design elements, I can translate the physical experience of eating candy into a visual and interactive format, making the encyclopedia feel as tactile and immersive like the candy itself. This approach also mirrors the way people encounter and remember candy; not just as a product but as a nostalgic, cultural, and emotional experience tied to sensation.
